Cid at PIP

Cid Corman profiled on The PIP (Project of Innovative Poetry) Blog. Thanks to Ed Baker for the heads up!

by Cid Corman

Terror is not – Ed –
sitting in one’s piss.
I know – I’ve sat there –

I’ve slept there and did
most of my childhood.
That was warmth – in fact –

and comfort – in spite
of the unconcealed
unconcealable

smell. Terror? That was
and always will be
Mother cursing Dad

and there there I am
alone in that night

  1. Joseph,

I'd like to thank Ed, too, for his unflagging loyalty to a man and his poetics. Ed's introduced me to many contemporary figures but the two to whom I'm most beholden to Ed for are Corman and Samperi. What a difference those two alone have made in my own poetical life!

  2. the guy who did the blog post could have done a bit more research ... Cid deserves a truth-based
biography ... an intense-life-in-poetry deserves more than this 'bare-bones' sketch.

    - it was Gary Snyder who introduced Cid to Will Petersen who got Cid that first teaching job.
    - it was not "CC" ice-cream shop... it was CCS and Shizumi was it s heart
    - that period when Cid an Shizumi was (supposedly) here in the states ? heck, that was the same
period of my first set of correspondence with Cid IN KYOTO 1974 - 1976
    a correspondence that I re-established in 1998

    et cetreras

what Cid and the poets and their poetry that he embraced sure needs to come-out-of-the-wood-work
a decent biographer/biography ... one who will let Cid provide the "ego" stuff rather than his or her's
    intruding ?

I suppose most of his story will NOT get into the history book ... at least what of it that I know.

or, as Cid put it in his very first letter to me: "I'm nobody and you're nobody - but I suppose, as you put it, "cheers" are in order. (etc)."

    cheers, Ed

  3. oppps that first correspondence "set" was 1972 -1975 ... then I dropped out for the next 30 years or so...

now? I'd drop out again but
fear that the next time that
    I'd drop-back-in I'd be dead

  4. What's most badly needed is a committed biographer to write Cid's life. Not someone who was there (it would become a memoir), but a biographer who could sort through the conflicting accounts. Someone people like you, Ed, would trust with copies of your Cid-related papers....

  5. Like Ed, I say I hope Cid gets his due soon--it's too long overdue.

  6. here is a Cid/Philip Rpwland 2,000 interview in two parts via flashpoint:
    http://www.flashpointmag.com/corman1.htm

    this is about-as-good-as-it-gets.

Carlo Parcelli and Brad Haas who do flashpoint live very near me. I went to school early to mid 60's with Carlo
Carlo's The Canaanite Gospel is, to say the least, a "trip"..
you should hear/see him red out of it !

yeah ... "trust" that's an intention worth perfecting ... or, is that,
"a POSITION worth perfecting" .... and protecting via communication when absolutely necessary to clear up any misunderstandings.... otherwise? never explain and -thing?
