Ruminations, intimations, protestations, proclamations
Thank you so much for posting this speech, Joseph. "Luminous" is exactly the right word for it. Although Leonard Cohen has been one of my heroes for many years, I never knew what an important influence Federico Garcia Lorca had been on him until a few minutes ago when I listened to that part of the speech. He's right that nobody can imitate Lorca's style--I know, because I tried when I was too young to know any better (about 17). And yet reading Lorca, like listening to Leonard Cohen, can help you find that place "within you, without you" where poetic inspiration comes from. As he put it so perfectly in his speech, "if I know how to find the place where the good songs come from, I'd go there more often."Thank you again.
